The Kerala government has announced on Wednesday, November 20, that Argentina’s great footballer Lionel Messi is coming to India to play an international match. The Kerala government has said that the Argentine football team captained by Lionel Messi will come to Kerala in 2025 to play an international match. Lionel Messi is coming to India after about 14 years.
Kerala Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman said at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram that the match will be held under the full supervision of the state government. Financial support for organising this high-profile football event will be provided by businessmen of the state. “The world’s number one football team Argentina, which also includes Lionel Messi, is coming to Kerala,” he said. The management of the Argentina team will make an official announcement in this regard.

The minister said the relevant persons of the football team will arrive in the southern state within one and a half months. “We (the government) have decided to make a joint announcement in this regard with the management of the Argentine national team.” Responding to a question, he said the decision on the team’s arrival has been taken and there has been no change in it. He said the government will directly monitor the match, security and other arrangements in this regard.
However, it is not yet decided where the match will be held and who the opponent team will be. The Sports Minister said that the match will be held next year but the date will be announced by the Argentine Football Federation as per their schedule. He clarified that the match will be held in a stadium that can accommodate at least 50,000 people, indicating that Kochi is likely to be the venue.
